INTRODUCTION
FOR VISITORS
Callington has been in existence for many centuries but saw if first
great expansion during the mining boom of the 19th century. The
centre of the town is a conservation area and this has preserved
much of the vernacular architecture of that time as well as earlier
examples, the most noteworthy being the parish church.

MURAL TRAIL
Callington is nationally known for its mural trail.
Throughout the town murals have been painted on walls by
professional artist, college students and school children. They
depict many aspects of life in the town both past and present. |

THE COUNTRYSIDE
Callington is situated in the middle of east
Cornwall, only a short distance from the Tamar Valley Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty and within sight of Bodmin Moor. Another
moorland area is Kit Hill which overlooks the town. Surrounding the
town are miles of quiet lanes with high Cornish banks that are a
haven for wildlife. Where these are broken by gateways panoramic
views are often revealed. |

PLACES TO VISIT
There are numerous places to visit in the area. If
you appreciate our country's heritage there is a wealth of sites within and
around the town. There are also sites within a short distance
of the town, Dupath Well, Holmbush Mine, Kit hill, Morwhellam Quay
and the Tamar Valley,
etc. If it is countryside, tranquillity and splendid landscape you
only have a short walk out of town.

THINGS TO DO
If you like walking Callington is the place to come
as there are miles of paths in the parish and beyond. If you enjoy
sports you can play golf at the nearby world famous St Mellion golf
course or indulge in a variety of sports at the Callington Community
College. With the Tamar only a short distance away there is the
opportunity to sail, canoe or just take a ferry and enjoy the bird
life of the river. In June there is the Kit Hill Run and in October
the Honey Fair.

There is a selection of accommodation available in
and around Callington, from welcoming Bed & Breakfast & Guest Houses
to Self Catering and camping. If you require a hotel there is one only a short
distance away at the St Mellion Golf & Country Club. The Town

FOOD & DRINK
Callington has a wide variety of eating
establishments, there are several take-aways and cafes, historic
public houses that provide food and a selection of restaurants, some
of them having won national awards. The nationally famous Ginsters
provide the traditional Cornish pasty but cuisine in the town also
includes Chinese, Indian and Malaysian/Thai. |
