VISIT
KIT HILL
Kit Hill can offer picnicking space, history,
mining remains, wildlife, hidden peaceful corners like the old
quarry, fantastic views. Leaflets available at the Town Hall. |

| CLIMB
CADSONBURY HILL
This hill, just
outside the Callington is owned by the National Trust. If you
cross Newbridge and turn left there is a parking areas, with a
map of the route. Walk along the lane until you see the first or
the second footpath on the right marked to Cadsonbury. The first
route is steep, the second is a longer more gradual climb. It was once home of a
local chieftain during the Iron Age and you will see a band and
ditch that encompass the top of the hill.

| WALK
ALONG THE RIVER
If you are not so
able or energetic, from the above mentioned car park you can
stroll along a level path [suitable for disabled] which runs for
about half a mile beside the River Lynher. They are benches
placed to admire the view or take a rest.

UP THE TAMAR
Want to see the
valley from a completely different aspect? Then get in a canoe
and paddle! See hidden views, glide past wildlife, appreciate
the history and how important this river once was to the economy
of the area. One way trips with a lift back to the start point.

THE TAMAR TRAIL
This trail, between
Plymouth and Launceston is 35 miles long, but there are many
opportunities to enjoy shorter section. The walk is sometimes
along side the river or above the river giving glimpses of

| VISIT
BODMIN MOOR
From Callington
head North West to Caradon Hill and then up to Minions. This
village is right on the south east edge of the moors and you can
see in the adjacent photo the line between grazed fields and
the moors beyond. An excellent place to park and walk.
From here you can drive on to Golitho Falls and up the Drayne
Valley to the Jamaica Inn of Daphne Du Maurier fame.

| VISIT
A FISHING VILLAGE
Take a day trip
down to one of the historic fishing ports on the south coast,
both Looe and Polperro are within a short distance. This
postcard from circa 1900 shows that Looe has changed little
apart from the bustle of people and cars that are present every
summer. The real atmosphere of these villages may be better
appreciated in the quieter months.

TAKE A
RIVER CRUISE
After your train
ride take a river cruise back. Pleasure boats are operated by
the Plymouth Boat Cruises Ltd and depart from Phoenix Wharf on
the Barbican. In Calstock the boats depart from the quay and
tickets can be purchased at the Calstock Steam Packet Office

VISIT
PLYMOUTH
After your train
ride visit Plymouth. The station is right above the centre of
the town where you can 'shop 'til you drop', eat out, visit
cinemas, theatres, skating rinks, bowling alleys, museums,
restaurants, night clubs, discos, etc.

GO ON
THE TAMAR VALLEY LINE TRAIN
Take the train from
Gunnislake down the valley to Plymouth. This line is operated by

TAKE
THE FERRY ACROSS THE TAMAR
The Tamar Ferry carries
passengers between Calstock Quay and Cotehele Quay. It also
carries walkers between Calstock and Ferry Farm on the Devon
